Concrete process  

We are all familiar with concrete as it is used in everything from our sidewalks to our bridges, in our houses and high rises, but although its use and popularity continue to increase, many aren't yet familiar with this versatile substance when used as an interior finish. Concrete can be formed to take on any shape and polished to a high gloss, resembling marble or granite, yet with greater mass, and maintaining its own unique characteristics.

Polished concrete gives an unparalleled tactile sensation: a warm feel and texture unlike any other material. It can be cast into any form imaginable, curved and refined to be as smooth as stone which has been shaped, smoothed, and polished by the sea.

The Retroplate System

The RetroPlate System, developed by Advanced Floor Products, LLC, was the first system to marry the concept of concrete densification with the process of mechanical grinding and polishing. Just like the Ashford Formula, the RetroPlate System single-handedly built the concrete polishing industry.

The RetroPlate System, which includes diamond grinding and polishing in conjunction with the RetroPlate densifying chemical, provides a floor that can be included in LEED projects from Silver to Platinum, and it also provides the lowest 10-year Life Cycle Cost Option of any coating or floor covering available. With over one hundred million square feet of densified and polished concrete since 1996, the RetroPlate System is the proven concrete polishing system in the world.

Consolideck® LS (Lithium Silicate)

Consolideck® LS/CS® is a patented formulation that provides a safe, economical alternative to conventional sodium or potassium silicate surface hardeners. This penetrating lithium silicate treatment reacts with concrete to produce insoluble calcium silicate hydrate within the concrete pores.

Unlike conventional hardeners which deposit high concentrations of sodium or potassium salts, Consolideck® LS/CS® contains lithium. LS/CS® will not trigger or contribute to surface ASR (Alkali Silicate Reaction).

This patented formulation penetrates and reacts quickly to produce better initial hardness. Provides excellent abrasion resistance and is tested and conforms to California Collaborative for High Performance School Indoor Air Quality standards. Use can contribute to LEED® for Schools points (EQ Credit 4).
